Live Poetry Event – Elizabeth Bishop

Tuesday 9th February 19.00-20.30 City Gate Hotel
‘I caught a tremendous fish…’ Elizabeth Bishop is one of the most famous American poets of the twentieth century. Her work is restrained, detailed, focussed on the precise description of place and feeling. These are poems which repay thoughtful and repeated reading, and stay with you long afterwards.
This evening will be hosted by Malcolm Hebron. After studying English at Oxford, Malcolm Hebron taught for many years at Winchester College. Over that time, he published books on medieval and renaissance writing, literature and linguistics and wrote a guide on how to read poetry. Malcolm is a Fellow of the English Association, and as an editor of a journal, he has worked with critics and poets, helping them prepare work for publication. Malcolm writes poems himself, of course, as a daily habit; and above all, he loves sharing what he has learned and learning from others.
